we are the future

Brazil | 1983 | 102 min | Director: Lufe Steffen

The 80's. A group of 12 year old children face discrimination at school and in their own home. Separated by their differences, they try to survive bullying and authoritarianism, persecuted for reasons of ethnicity, gender, sexuality, physical shape, behavior. Until one day, music teacher and futurist Clara Celeste lands to show them that everything can be different. By experiencing empowerment, such children come together and finally manage to live their identities with freedom. But the school, normativity and the monster of conservatism are watching. Can our child heroes win the battle against intolerance? This is a musical film that mixes references from classical movies to make a portrait of our time.
